The budget conference report written by House and Senate Republicans is further proof of Republicans’ commitment to a severe and unworkable policy agenda that disinvests in America.

I am very proud to be joining the new Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus.  HBCUs have long played a crucial role in providing high quality education that strengthens both the African American community and our country as a whole.  Many of them, such as Bowie State University in Maryland’s Fifth District, are cutting-edge institutions of research and higher education that provide a solid foundation for student achievement and a launch-pad for successful careers. 

I am deeply disappointed by comments from Republican House leaders in support of cutting off export financing from the Export-Import Bank. 

Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments in preparation for a decision that I believe will be historic and a reaffirmation of the basic value enshrined in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution of every individual’s equal rights. 

The devastation and loss of life that has resulted from Saturday's earthquake in Nepal is truly heartbreaking.

Today we mark the somber centennial of one of history’s greatest tragedies:  the mass-murder of 1.5 million Armenians, which began with the arrest of 250 journalists, politicians, clergy, and intellectuals on April 24, 1915.

I was saddened to learn of the tragic deaths of Dr. Warren Weinstein and Giovanni Lo Porto while they were being held as hostages by al Qaeda.

I am pleased that the Senate has finally confirmed Loretta Lynch to serve as our country’s next Attorney General.

I am pleased that the House has taken bipartisan action to address the issue of enhancing cybersecurity.
