Leader Pelosi mentioned 165 days. Let me give you a starker figure. No Attorney General of the last [seven] have waited more than ten days to be confirmed after they were reported out of Committee. Loretta Lynch has now waited 55 days – more than all the rest of the Attorneys General since [Attorney General] Thornburgh under [President] Reagan was appointed.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Republicans' markup of a D.C. disapproval resolution to overturn the D.C. Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act:

MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

This Wednesday marked the 100th day of the Republican-led 114th Congress. Unfortunately, Republicans wasted this time by prioritizing political gimmicks and partisan messaging bills over substantive legislation to get things done for American families.

The President’s signing of the Medicare Access and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act today represents a bipartisan victory for seniors, children, and doctors.

I am disappointed that House Republicans brought a bill to the Floor today that would add $269 billion to the deficit over the next decade in order to provide an average tax break of $4 million to just 5,400 of the wealthiest families in America each year.

Today, we pause and reflect on the tragedy and inhumanity of the Holocaust and remember the Nazis’ 11 million innocent victims – including 6 million Jews and their vibrant communities that had enriched Europe for centuries.

LANGLEY PARK, MD – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD)hosted an information session and rally yesterday evening with special guest Congressman Luis V. Gutiérrez (IL-4) in support of President Obama’s November 2014 executive actions on immigration and to call for comprehensive immigration reform.

I was proud to be on hand for today's hearing by the Congressional Progressive Caucus on wage stagnation.
