Hoyer: Republicans in Congress are Seeking to Undermine Democratic Will of the People of D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Republicans' markup of a D.C. disapproval resolution to overturn the D.C. Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act:

“Once again, Republicans in Congress are seeking to undermine the democratic will of the people of the District of Columbia as they advance a resolution of disapproval to overturn the District’s law protecting women’s personal healthcare decisions.  I strongly support the District’s autonomy under home rule, and I continue to believe that it is the D.C. Council and Mayor – and not Congress – that ought to be responsible for legislating on behalf of District residents.”
