It is disturbing and unsettling that we are bearing witness to yet another school shooting with multiple fatalities reported. Until Republicans in Congress step up and take meaningful action on gun violence by enacting commonsense background check laws and banning the most deadly assault weapons, none of us can truly expect this carnage to lessen.

I join in wishing Muslim-Americans across our country a very meaningful Ramadan observance.  To all participating in the holiday, I say: Ramadan Mubarak.

I join with Mexican-Americans in celebrating Cinco de Mayo.  On this date 156 years ago, Mexican patriots and freedom fighters won a crucial victory to prevent a return of colonialism and preserve their nation’s independence. 

I join in celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month, which is observed throughout May. Since colonial times, Jewish Americans have contributed to this country and helped build its future.

Throughout May, we pay tribute to the history and heritage of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

Our nation’s music professionals – performers, recording artists, songwriters, sound engineers, and others involved in the musical arts – deserve to benefit fairly from their hard work.
