WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month:
“I join in celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month, which is observed throughout May. Since colonial times, Jewish Americans have contributed to this country and helped build its future. From the American Revolution to the present day, Jewish service-members have risked their lives to defend our flag, and Jewish Americans have made enormous contributions throughout our society, from public service to business, science, the arts, education, and sports. Inspired by the ancient teachings of the Torah and a difficult history of oppression and exile, many Jewish Americans have been leaders in progressive movements for civil rights, voting rights, organized labor, and immigrant rights - helping to build a more perfect union for us all.
“I’m proud to serve in Congress alongside Jewish Americans who are serving so ably in government. Together, we are standing up for our common values, supporting our ally Israel, and combatting antisemitism at home and abroad. I will continue to advocate for a strong U.S.-Israel relationship.”
