I was walking down the hall just a few minutes ago, going to a meeting on the Senate side. And Ed Markey, with whom I’ve served for many years in the House of Representatives was walking by, he and I have been here a long time. And we stopped, and we looked at one another sort of shaking our heads.
Even when applying Republicans’ favored analytical tool of ‘dynamic scoring,’ their tax cuts would not come close to paying for themselves.
Good afternoon. I’d like to welcome all of you to the United States Capitol for our third official Congressional Hackathon.  This is one of the most unique and exciting events that we host. 
I have called for the Stafford Act to be amended in a way that will allow for communities affected by natural disasters to rebuild stronger than before, rather than to earlier standards that were insufficient to withstand storms and leave communities vulnerable in the future, as required under current law.
In the aftermath of the worst act of individual gun violence in our nation’s history in Las Vegas – and following several recent mass-murders that shocked the conscience of our nation – it is appalling that House Republicans would advance a bill out of committee today that would make our communities less safe from gun violence. 
oday, Democrats and Republicans came together to mandate anti-harassment training for all House Members and staff.  However, while this is a positive step, it is only a first step. 
Yesterday’s launch of a ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear payload across thousands of miles – far enough to threaten cities in the continental United States – violates international laws and demands a strong international response. 
In the past twenty-five years, I’ve served with many outstanding patriots and public servants, but few have matched the intellect, the passion for service, and the tireless determination of Luis Gutiérrez. 
Republicans on the Senate Budget Committee have cast their votes for a dangerous and partisan bill that would raise taxes on 82 million middle class families and force our children and grandchildren deeper into debt while giving away the largest tax cuts to the wealthiest in our country.
