WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House passed H. Res. 630, mandating that every House Member and employee complete sexual harassment prevention training:

“Today, Democrats and Republicans came together to mandate anti-harassment training for all House Members and staff.  However, while this is a positive step, it is only a first step.  Congress needs to come together to make it easier for victims to come forward, including by knowing how to seek redress for grievances they have without being made to feel threatened or their jobs at risk; ensure that investigations are quick and thorough; and make certain that those who have been found responsible for wrongdoing cannot continue in their positions.  As Americans take stock of the pervasiveness of this problem, Congress needs to explore how better to protect those in workplaces across the country, including right here in the Capitol.  We must encourage broader changes in our society to prevent these unacceptable acts from occurring in the first place.”
