Tax and Appropriations

Today’s GOP quote of the day is a good reminder for our Republican friends that budget/shut down/debt limit brinksmanship hasn’t gotten them anywhere in the past. With only six weeks in session before the August recess, and no proposed budget, no approps bills passed, and a pressing need to raise the debt limit, we’ll see whether they listen to Republican Study Committee Chair Mark Walker (R-NC). From CQ’s Budget Tracker:

This week, President Trump released his budget for fiscal year 2018. His proposal makes draconian cuts to programs that help working Americans get ahead in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy.

[Rep. Lee] says I looked at the budget. If you care about people and you look at this budget, you will tear up.

Yesterday, President Trump released a budget that is full of broken promises to the American people.

Thank you Mr. Speaker. Yesterday President Trump laid out his budget request for next year.

It's not real. And frankly, my first thoughts were mirrored by almost every Republican who made a comment on the budget, this is not a real document, it is not a real offer, it's not a starting point.

President Trump’s budget is a litany of broken promises to the American people

Another day, another #BrokenPromise from President Trump. In fact, his budget breaks a lot of promises he made to the American people – most importantly, the promise that he is fighting for them. Instead, they get a budget that harms working Americans in order to give a huge tax cut to the wealthiest. Here is a look at the coverage so far:

Today’s GOP quote of the day comes from Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), who slammed the Trump Administration’s budget for the draconian cuts it’s expected to make. From Politico:

This week, Congress returned from a District Work Period during which constituents made their opinions on TrumpCare known to House Republicans.
