Thank you, Secretary Rubin.  Thank you to everyone at the Hamilton Project and the Brookings Institution.  And thanks to former Director Orszag and the distinguished panelists who are here today as well.

I want to thank my friend Rep. Sandy Levin for his service as Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Committee and, previously, as its Chair.

The tax proposal House Republicans unveiled today is nothing new.  

I am horrified and deeply saddened by Sunday’s attack in Orlando, Florida. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the Orlando LGBT and Latino communities. However, our thoughts and prayers alone are not enough.
