Tax and Appropriations

When it comes to reforming our tax code, there really isn't much debate about why we need to do it. Stepping to the podium to declare that we need tax reform does not signal leadership on this issue; rather, doing so without offering any proposals on how to achieve it is an abdication.

…Mr. Speaker, there is a lot of disorder in Washington, D.C. there is chaos and conflict and confrontation in the White House.

It seems that the White House and its Republican allies in Congress haven’t learned from their mistakes on writing TrumpCare bills and are once again preparing to write hugely consequential legislation affecting hundreds of millions of Americans behind closed doors among a small cadre of leaders without input even from rank-and-file Members of their own party.

Thank you very much, Madam Ranking Member, for yielding. Mr. Chairman, Members of the House.

Today’s GOP Quote of the Day is brought to you by Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA), calling it like he sees it on the appropriations process. Like us, he recognizes that Republicans cannot pass funding bills without Democratic support and sees GOP leaders are wasting time with a partisan bill when they know they’ll need bipartisan cooperation to fund the government.

Amid the investigations into Russia’s interference in our last election and its ongoing efforts to subvert democratic systems here at home and among our allies, it is critical that Congress provide our intelligence community with the best possible tools and clear direction.

House Republicans finally released their reckless, irrational budget for Fiscal Year 2018 – 94 days past the deadline for the budget process to be completed.

Last night, the House Budget Committee approved on a party line vote a Republican budget resolution that disinvests in America’s future and relies on a foundation that simply doesn’t add up.

Senator McConnell made it clear that if in fact they fail to pass a replacement bill, that he thought the alternative was to work together with Democrats. I think that's the right way to go.

Thank you to Randi [Weingarten] who absolutely gets it, all the time, every day, every hour, and lets us hear about it…
