House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today as Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hold a hearing on anti-LGBT legislation. 

Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Eliot Engel, House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Nita Lowey, and House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa Ranking Member Ted Deutch sent a letter today to Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy expressing concerns about a Republican bill that would undermine Congress’s traditionally bipartisan approach to Iran. 

This was a difficult week for our nation following the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, as well as the shootings in Dallas, which took the lives of five police officers. 

House Democrats have been on the House Floor for over an hour, asking for unanimous consent to bring up legislation to address gun violence. As Members hold up photos of gun violence victims and ask for a vote, House Republicans continue to be deeply divided over their NRA-endorsed bill and announce that they will indefinitely delay a vote on their own bill.  

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) and House Democrats, led by Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06), gathered on the House Floor this morning to demand House Republicans hold a vote on legislation to address gun violence. 

Last month, House Democrats held a 26-hour sit in on the Floor of the House of Representatives to demand House Republican leaders hold a vote on legislation to address gun violence. 

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined House Democrats and Americans affected by gun violence this morning at a press conference to call on House Republicans to hold a vote on meaningful legislation to address gun violence. 

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) spoke on the Floor of the House of Representatives this afternoon to demand House Republicans bring bipartisan legislation to address gun violence to the Floor for a vote. 

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined Reps. Robin Kelly (IL-02), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Danny Davis (IL-07), Bill Foster (IL-11), and Mike Quigley (IL-05) today at a rally in Chicago as part of the National Day of Action for Commonsense Gun Violence Prevention.
