Congress
The hits keep coming for the GOP, as opposition to their #PayMoreForLess repeal bill continues to mount. Check out what the American Medical Association – an organization that knows a thing or two about health care – had to say:
Before tuning into the Energy & Commerce and Ways & Means Committee markups this morning, here’s another reminder that Republicans are rushing the process and have no idea what the impact of their bill will be, courtesy of Senator Mike Lee (R-UT):
Under the regular order that Speaker Ryan promised would govern the House on his watch, the proper procedure is for a committee markup on major legislation to take place after the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has had an opportunity to analyze it and release an estimate of its cost and economic impact.
Well, thank you very much [Rep.] Cheri [Bustos] and thanks for the work that you’re doing on communications and making sure that the message gets out to the American people so they can take their views made to the Congress in an informed way.
This evening, I was proud to join my colleagues in supporting bipartisan legislation to name the Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic in Pago Pago after our friend and former Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, who sadly passed away on February 22.
It’s taken seven years to see the Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and it’s no wonder they’ve kept it hidden from the American people for so long. Check out how much MORE American families will have to pay (for less coverage, of course) both today and in 2020, according to an analysis from Vox:
For seven years, Republicans have said they have a better alternative to the Affordable Care Act, and over the course of the campaign, the President promised to provide “insurance for everybody” that is “much less expensive” and “much better.”
Tonight, after seven years of claiming to have a workable replacement for the Affordable Care Act, House Republicans showed their hand, and it is empty.
Can I see the bill today?
Today, House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) asked Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy where House Republicans are hiding their draft legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which is reportedly being marked up in committee next week.
