WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on tonight's vote to name the Veteran Affairs outpatient clinic in Pago Pago, American Samoa in honor of the former Delegate from American Samoa, Eni Faleomavaega:
“This evening, I was proud to join my colleagues in supporting bipartisan legislation to name the Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic in Pago Pago after our friend and former Delegate Eni Faleomavaega, who sadly passed away on February 22. Eni represented the people of American Samoa faithfully for more than a quarter-century, and I served with him throughout that time. I was honored to work closely with Eni to ensure that Americans living in the territories have their voices heard in Congress.
“A Vietnam veteran and U.S. Army longtime reservist, Eni served his nation valiantly in uniform and bore the scars of war throughout his life. His legacy will be felt for a very long time on issues ranging from natural resources policy, environmental preservation, and territorial representation, and I count myself as fortunate to have called him a friend and colleague for so many years. This legislation will ensure that his service as a veteran, his skill as a legislator, and his pride in being a son of American Samoa will never be forgotten.”
