We have 67% of the American people who think we ought to deal with assault weapons, which are the weapons of choice for those who want to kill a lot of people very quickly in public places; whether they be schools, or restaurants, or concert venues, restaurants, nightclubs. The American public want action.
Congress has a responsibility, under the Constitution, to provide for the safety and general welfare of the American people, and this includes protecting our children from mass murderers. 
Throughout his career in public service, Rick Nolan has fought for jobs and opportunity for Minnesota workers and their families.
Today, the President of the United States chose to ignore the serious warnings of the Department of Justice, FBI, and the intelligence community to release a doctored classified memo for the purposes of smearing the law enforcement agencies investigating his campaign.
Tonight, the President spoke of building a ‘safe, strong, and proud America’ but neither his words tonight nor his actions over the past year are accomplishing any of those goals.
President Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address tonight, and as we reflect on his first year in office, it is clear that the Trump presidency has so far been defined by chaos and incompetence.
