Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream.

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream. That’s why House Democrats continue to work for common sense, comprehensive, and balanced immigration reform: reform that secures our borders, respects the rule of law, and provides immigrants with a fair chance of achieving the American Dream. We believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you should have a chance at building a future here in America. Comprehensive immigration reform would be good for the American economy and help our fiscal outlook. House Democrats have worked to establish a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and T.P.S. and D.E.D. status holders by twice-passing the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act, which Republicans continue to obstruct in the Senate. House Democrats also passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act to reform the H-2A guestworker program to allow those contributing to our agricultural economy to remain in America. President Biden has taken action to restore the DACA program, end wasteful spending on an ineffective border wall, and reaffirm America’s values. Democrats will continue to partner with the Biden Administration to help Dreamers, fix American’s broken immigration system and ensure that it strengthens America and grows our economy.

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following video today highlighting 48 House Democrats who took to the House Floor today to call on House Republicans to bring the SOLVE Act to the Floor to defund and rescind President Trump’s Muslim ban.

Just days after President Trump signed his executive order, it’s clear his Muslim ban faces broad opposition. National security experts, labor and business leaders, and faith-based organizations have denounced this unconstitutional ban that makes our nation less safe.

I was proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder tonight on the steps of the Supreme Court with my Democratic colleagues and with a multitude of Americans who came out to protest the Trump Administration’s actions.

I’m proud to join Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren, Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, and more than 160 House Democrats as a cosponsor of legislation to end the Trump Administration’s dangerous Muslim ban.

Following his inauguration, President Trump signed a vague, yet potentially broad, executive order attacking the Affordable Care Act.

Today’s executive order putting in place new vetting measures – clearly an attempt to ban Muslims from our nation – is shameful and flies in the face of America’s role as a shining beacon of hope to those seeking freedom and asylum.

Well, thank you very much, Chair [Michelle] Lujan Grisham, I am very pleased to join you. Once again the President is charging ahead and not giving time either for thought, criticism, or input from American citizens.

Thank you, Chair Lujan Grisham. And I thank all of you for being here. I want to thank my colleagues. My colleagues – for the most part, if not all – are children of immigrants.

As Congress prepares to adjourn at the end of the week, it’s clear that the Republican-led 114th Congress has become yet another closed, unproductive, do-nothing Congress.

Hi – I’m Steny Hoyer, the Democratic Whip in the House of Representatives. I’m proud to join you in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
