Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream.

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream. That’s why House Democrats continue to work for common sense, comprehensive, and balanced immigration reform: reform that secures our borders, respects the rule of law, and provides immigrants with a fair chance of achieving the American Dream. We believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you should have a chance at building a future here in America. Comprehensive immigration reform would be good for the American economy and help our fiscal outlook. House Democrats have worked to establish a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and T.P.S. and D.E.D. status holders by twice-passing the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act, which Republicans continue to obstruct in the Senate. House Democrats also passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act to reform the H-2A guestworker program to allow those contributing to our agricultural economy to remain in America. President Biden has taken action to restore the DACA program, end wasteful spending on an ineffective border wall, and reaffirm America’s values. Democrats will continue to partner with the Biden Administration to help Dreamers, fix American’s broken immigration system and ensure that it strengthens America and grows our economy.

William Shakespeare famously declared that “past is prologue,” and the bard’s words ought to give us pause as we assess the first scene of this very strange play in which we now find ourselves as a nation.

The Trump White House must not remember how the last shut down played out. With just four days in session before the April 28 deadline, reports indicate the White House and some Republicans are ready to shut down the government in order to fund their border wall. A look at some recent polling shows just how unpopular that would be with the American people:

From CQ Roll Call:

While glaringly short on detail, today’s release by the Trump Administration of its discretionary budget proposals makes clear what we suspected to be true: a Trump budget would embark on the most radical disinvestment in America we’ve ever seen.

I’m not at all surprised that a federal judge has blocked the Trump Administration’s revised travel ban from taking effect, mirroring the rulings that blocked the previous ban.

This week, Republicans introduced their bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would kick millions of Americans off their health insurance and make millions of others pay more for less coverage.

The executive order signed today doubles down on a radical policy that will weaken our national security and put all Americans in danger.

Tonight, President Trump stood before the United States Congress and gave a speech long on rhetoric but short on any real policy agenda.

I’m not surprised [President Trump said he will discuss immigration reform]. Other than it's always surprising to hear Donald Trump say what he is for and against because it changes on a relevant basis.

President Trump's blueprint for mass deportation does nothing to keep Americans safe.

This week, I was deeply alarmed by actions taken by the White House that put the interests of Russia ahead of the interests of the United States.
