On Labor Day, we celebrate the contributions of America’s working men and women and their families. Throughout our history, working people have put their labor and talents into building a more prosperous country, strong communities, and a vibrant democracy.
President Trump’s words about those who died defending our nation were disgusting and outrageous. Never before have I seen a president - or any public elected official, for that matter - so callously demean the sacrifices and service of America’s fallen heroes and those currently serving.
The jobs report for August makes it clear that millions of Americans are still struggling without work, and we have a long way to go before we recover from this crisis. While the unemployment rate improved slightly, the massive scope of Americans still out of work means we have far more work to do to build back better.
WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on the Budget Outlook report issued by the Congressional Budget Office today:

Today, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) announced the subcategory winners of the eleventh-annual 2020 Member Online All-Star Competition. The finalists were selected by the Majority Leader’s staff and shared on social media last week.
The news today of an encounter between U.S. and Russian forces in Syria underscore the dangers of this Administration’s lack of a strategy to protect our troops, support our allies, and promote an end to the conflict there that secures our interests. I remain deeply concerned that Vladimir Putin intends to use pressure on our military - as we saw with the reports several weeks ago of Russian bounties paid to the Taliban in Afghanistan for U.S. service members killed there - and influence our election and the direction of America’s global national security strategy.
Today, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, which marks the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment into our Constitution, a turning point for voting rights and women’s equality, which would not have been possible without the extraordinary resolve of suffragists who marched, protested, and braved imprisonment and torture to win the right to vote.  We pay tribute to their resolve and to the sacrifices they made for equality and to make our union more perfect.
