Madam Speaker, this agreement represents a bipartisan effort to prevent a catastrophic default and lessen the chance of a government shutdown in December. Lessens the chance – it doesn't preclude it.

Hoyer (MD) joined Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters (CA), Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee Ranking Member Gwen Moore (WI), and Congressman Denny Heck (WA) at a press conference this evening following House passage of a bill to reopen the Export-Import Bank. Below is a transcript of his remarks:
This evening, 313 Members of the House - virtually every Democrat and a majority of Republicans - joined together in a vote to reopen the Export-Import Bank and help American exporters create good jobs here in our country.
I’m pleased to call this hearing to order, which is the third in our series called “Make It In America: What’s Next?” that we’ve held on Capitol Hill since July.
First of all, let me thank all of you for being here. As you probably know I asked [Rep.] Barbara Lee to head up a Task Force.
Congress has a responsibility to work in a bipartisan and fiscally responsible way to replace the sequester so that we can invest in a more competitive economy and a stronger future for our country and its people.
