I join in celebrating May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.  

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ellen Tauscher.  She was a leader for our party and our country, a trusted colleague, and a dear friend.

I am pleased that Democrats and the President were able to agree this morning on taking a first step toward meeting our infrastructure challenges with a $2 trillion investment. 

America was founded as a place of refuge for those fleeing persecution, violence, and disaster.

I was deeply unnerved to hear about today’s synagogue shooting in San Diego. Six months to the day since the deadly, anti-Semitic attack on the Tree of Life congregation in Pittsburgh, this shooting reminds us that hateful rhetoric leads to violence.

Today, we observe the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, a tragedy that claimed the lives of 1.5 million people.

As we celebrate our planet today, we must recommit ourselves to taking the necessary steps to protect it and its extraordinary diversity of life.
