Leader McCarthy’s announcement is yet another reflection of Republicans’ deep divisions and dysfunction.
A look at this week’s headlines might look familiar – that’s because they are. As Republicans continue to threaten yet another reckless government shutdown, we’re reminded of their resolute record of governing by crisis. Having campaigned on promises to make Congress more transparent and encourage open debate, the House Republican majority quickly abandoned those principles and made the 112th and 113th Congresses the least productive in history, characterized by few significant bills enacted, a record number of ‘closed rules,’ that limited debate, and failure to abide by their own promises on how they would run the House.
