“I am disappointed that Republicans have chosen to move forward with their so-called debt prioritization bill.

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) delivered opening remarks this afternoon introducing the GlobalWIN panel on Women in Leadership.

Let me start by thanking the National Council on Disability for everything it does to educate the Congress, the President, federal agencies, and state and local governments on policies, programs, practices, and procedures that affect people with disabilities.

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD), together with Task Force on Poverty and Opportunity Chair Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA), sent the following letter today to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, and on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development.

“The cybersecurity legislation the House passed today addresses a critical national security challenge and represents a significant improvement from what was passed last year.

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra, and House Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman Joe Crowley today sent a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner calling on the Speaker to appoint House conferees without further delay and follow regular order to reach an agreement on a budget focused on jobs, economic growth, balanced deficit reduction, and a strong, thriving middle class.

“Like 90% of Americans, I am disappointed that the Senate could not adopt a reasonable, bipartisan compromise to close loopholes in federal background check laws, despite the fact that it received a majority of votes.  

“The bill introduced by a bipartisan group of Senators represents a significant first step toward achieving comprehensive immigration reform.  For the 11 million undocumented individuals living in and contributing to our communities, the start of this legislative process could not come sooner.
