House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) led a bipartisan group of 394 Members of Congress to send the following letter to President Barack Obama on efforts to prevent a nuclear armed Iran.  The letter was signed by 178 Democrats and 216 Republicans.

 House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined more than 175 Senators and Representatives on a letter to President Barack Obama calling on him to issue an executive order that would ban companies from receiving federal government contracts unless they have a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. 

In 1775, Alexander Hamilton wrote: ‘there is an enthusiasm in liberty that makes human nature rise above itself in acts of bravery and heroism.’ 

I condemn in the strongest terms Sunday's illegitimate referendum in Crimea, which was conducted under intimidation and the threat of violence.  The United States and our European allies will not recognize its results. 

“After twice rejecting a motion by Rep. Jim McGovern earlier this week to allow a vote on a bill by Rep. John Tierney that would pay for the bipartisan fix to the Medicare physician payment formula by responsibly capping the Overseas Contingency Operations after 2016,  House Republicans today turned what could have been a moment for progress and compromise into yet another exercise in partisan messaging.

“I am encouraged that a bipartisan group of Senators announced a proposal to restore emergency unemployment insurance for the more than 2 million Americans who had this assistance cut off since December 28.

I was proud to sign a petition today that would force a vote in the House on restoring emergency unemployment insurance for more than 2 million Americans who have seen that assistance disappear since December.

“I was disappointed that House Republicans today blocked a motion by Rep. Jim McGovern to consider Rep. John Tierney’s bill that would permanently fix the Medicare physician payment formula while capping Overseas Contingency Operations well below the Congressional Budget Office’s projections.

“I join in condemning today’s rocket attacks from Gaza against Israeli communities and in praying for the safety and well-being of the families taking shelter.  I have been to S’derot and seen first-hand both the danger posed by these rockets and the resilience of those who live in their shadow each day. 

“More than 4.2 million Americans have now enrolled in health insurance plans through the federal and state health insurance marketplaces, including more than a million young people between the ages of 18-34.
