WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined Congressmen Emanuel Cleaver (MO-5), Gregory Meeks (NY-5), Danny Davis (IL-7), Peter Welch (VT), Steve Cohen (TN-9) and Bobby Rush (IL-1) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.

“Madame Chair, I want to first congratulate Nydia Valazquez of New York on the extraordinary leadership she has shown on behalf of entrepreneurs and small businesses and medium-sized businesses and yes, even large businesses in our country.

"I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans voted today to prevent equal pay legislation from reaching the Floor

“I’m pleased the Committee on Natural Resources passed this bipartisan legislation by unanimous consent today, bringing us one step closer to allowing construction of the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum to proceed. 

“Thank you very much for being here. I am pleased to be joined by my colleagues, the Ranking Member of the Science and Technology Committee, the Ranking Member of the Financial Services Committee, the Ranking Member of the Budget Committee, and Mr. Heck, who is a representative of the freshman class, but who himself was a very high ranking leader in the legislature in Washington state, a very successful business man, who knows a lot about what we’re talking about, and we’re pleased to have him here as well.

“Thank you, Ranking Member Waters, for inviting me to address the panel this afternoon, and I want to thank Ranking Member Lacy Clay of the Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee as well.

“Thank you very much for being here. I first of all want to start by thanking Sandy Levin. Congressman Levin is from Michigan and he’s the Ranking Democrat on the Ways and Means Committee.  Otherwise known as the guy who’s got all the fans in the audience.  That’s terrific.

“It is shameful that in America today, women still earn only 77 cents to the dollar compared to a man.
