WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Majority Leader Steny H.
Four times last week we passed bills to open up the government. Today, we passed a bill to open up the government. Holding us responsible for keeping us shut down is irrational.
I am glad that a federal judge today acted to prevent the Trump Administration from tampering with the 2020 Census.  Our founding generation created the decennial census in order to ensure an accurate count of all those living within our borders, subject to our laws, and participating in our economy.
Today, I brought to the Floor a continuing resolution to reopen the government through February 1 so that federal employees can get back to work serving the American people and receive the paychecks they’ve earned.  One hundred eighty-seven Republicans voted to keep the government shut down. 
There can be no room for racist and bigoted language aimed at hate and harm in our national discourse, and I join in the wholehearted condemnation of Rep. Steve King’s comments.
Ninety years ago today, our nation was blessed with the arrival of the most consequential American of the twentieth century and one of the brightest lights in the history of our country. 
Today, I am introducing a resolution to prevent the Treasury Department from lifting sanctions on businesses owned by Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch who has been sanctioned for his close relationship to President Putin and activities aimed at harming the interests of the United States.
This week, House Democrats will bring to the Floor continuing resolutions to reopen government.
By refusing to reopen government while both parties continue to discuss the best way to secure our borders, President Trump is inflicting great harm on 800,000 federal employees and the American people they serve
Our position is [Republicans] got to stop using the shutting down of the people's government as a strategy to attain our objectives.
