WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) issued the following statement regarding the President’s Fiscal Year 2009 Budget that was released today:
Mr. Speaker, I believe that every single member of this body – on both sides of the aisle – agrees that we must protect middle-income Americans from the alternative minimum tax, the parallel tax system enacted in 1969 to ensure that wealthy Americans pay their fair share.
Congress is on course to pass a Fiscal Year 2008 Consolidated Appropriations bill that rejects the President’s misguided budget cuts and takes steps to reinvest in the priorities of our nation’s citizens – including those in rural America.
