Trump’s Government Shutdown

On December 21, 2018, President Trump and House Republicans shut down parts of the federal government in a shameful, partisan effort to force taxpayers to fund an expensive and ineffective border wall. As a result, 800,000 hardworking federal employees are either furloughed or forced to work without a paycheck for the duration of this shutdown. Millions of Americans are being affected as government services have been suspended, including having their tax refunds delayed, having home loan approvals delayed, seeing decreased security at airports, and being put at risk as national parks operate without staff or guides. House Democrats are working to reopen government, but President Trump and the Republican-led Senate have refused to take action to end this costly shutdown.

Here’s your shockingly out of touch Republican comment of the day (but it’s still early!). Perhaps this is why Republicans have yet to show any urgency to reopen the government?
Shutting down the government of the United states is stupid, irresponsible, and dangerous.
It is a stupid, irresponsible, and dangerous policy that [Republicans] are pursuing by keeping the government shut down.
Today is Day 33 of the Trump shutdown, the longest in our nation’s history, and the impacts of the shutdown are growing. From undermining law enforcement efforts and delaying tax refunds to cutting off revenue for small businesses and putting vulnerable Americans at risk of being evicted, the shutdown is affecting Americans across the country. Take a look:
President Trump said he would be proud to shut down the government and that he would own it. Thirty-three days into this Trump shutdown, poll after poll shows he does own it.
In poll after poll, the American people hold President Trump responsible for the month-long government shutdown, and a recent Washington Post article points out that even his supporters are blaming him for the shutdown and urging him to re-open the government now. Key excerpts:
