*Sequestration
“Well obviously [reaching a budget agreement] will take compromise. We’ve had a very difficult time getting to that. The Ryan budget frankly is a rehash of last year's budget and the budget before that.
In case we didn’t have enough to worry about with the Republican Budget, the rising impact of the irrational and avoidable sequester continues to threaten our economy and national security, including our intelligence operations.
While the effects of sequestration will continue to build over time, our men and women in uniform are already feeling the impact with the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard stopping tuition assistance:
MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP
This week, Republicans again did not take action to stop the reckless and irresponsible spending cuts known as the sequester. As warnings are issued about the potential harm these across-the-board cuts could cause, Republicans have refused to vote on House Democrats’ alternative to stop the sequester with a balanced approach to deficit reduction.
Instead of investing in health care programs and research developments necessary to keep Americans healthy and safe, Republicans have allowed the irresponsible cuts known as sequester to go into effect.
“[The sequester] is not shutting down government so obviously it's going to be a slow erosion, not an immediate tidal wave.
Continued refusal by the Republican leadership to stop the sequester has resulted in the reckless, across-the-board spending cuts going into effect. One of the areas that could be impacted by these irrational cuts are education and job readiness programs that invest in our future.
“I think the senators that went obviously wanted to talk to the President about whether or not they could reach common ground on a lot of very important issues including most importantly a compromise that we could get this country on a fiscally sustainable path and have what we call a big deal
Democrats continue to call for a big and balanced solution to stop the irrational and irresponsible across-the-board spending cuts known as the sequester. While House Democrats have proposed a solution to stop these reckless cuts, Republicans have refused on four separate occasions to bring this legislation to the House Floor for a vote.
“I agree with the Gentlelady who has just spoken. But I want to say to my friend, Mr. McKeon, this is neither regular order nor rational policy. It ought to be rejected.
