Republican Outrages
I am disappointed Republicans once again chose confrontation over compromise by voting for a candidate who promised to bring more partisanship—not less—to Washington. In fact, Sen. Lugar’s opponent was quoted as saying: ‘bipartisanship ought to consist of Democrats coming to the Republican point of view.’...
If the United States fails to pay the bills it has incurred, it ‘would be a financial disaster not only for our country, but for the world economy.’ Those are the words of Speaker Boehner in January...
"In recent days, we have seen starkly contrasting budget plans. The plans put forward by President Obama and House Democrats are balanced approaches to getting our country out of debt while protecting investments in job creation and the future of our economy. But the Republican plan has a higher priority than balancing the budget or investing in our future or looking out for working families—its highest priority is cutting taxes even further for the wealthiest Americans...
...Current law already forbids federal dollars from funding abortion. But in pursuit of a divisive social agenda, Republicans also voted to defund Planned Parenthood, which would cut off the crucial services it provides to millions of women, including cancer screenings and blood work...
“Today, Republicans mark 100 days in the House majority. During that time, they have pursued divisive social issues, passed bills that have no chance of becoming law, introduced a budget that would end Medicare as we know it and threatened Americans with a government shutdown. But there is one thing that Republicans have failed to do: they have failed to even consider a single bill to create jobs...
Today Republicans unveiled their agenda calling for the exact same failed policies of the past. The national security agenda presented, once again, does not focus on the real fight against terrorism and the places that give them sanctuary and put our nation at risk. A review of the Real Republican Agenda:
This Fall, corporate special interests are trying to drown out the voices of the American people with a flood of negative advertising funded by shadowy front groups. These groups are taking advantage of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that has enabled them to collect unlimited and undisclosed money from powerful, wealthy and sometimes foreign corporations – all without telling anyone where the money is coming from.
“Today, Minority Leader John Boehner demonstrated to the American people that Republicans have no new ideas, and instead would return to the exact same failed economic policies of the past...
Today Minority Leader Boehner is giving a speech on Congressional reform, but it's not clear how he will answer a major question – why should voters trust that Republicans would do things differently this time? Today's Republican Leaders are not fresh faces and they plan a return to the exact same agenda as before. During their time in power, Republicans did not make government more open and transparent, and in fact allowed a culture of corruption to flourish.
The Republicans unveiled their "Pledge to America" last week and, just as we thought, it contained no new ideas and was a return to the "exact same" failed agenda as President Bush. Their agenda to return to their previous policies makes it clear who they stand with—big corporations and special interests, instead of middle class families.
