I join in congratulating Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham on her election as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for the 115th Congress, and I thank Rep. Linda Sánchez for her service as the current Chair.  

The Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) continue to be among the fiercest defenders in the Congress of every American’s right to achieve the American Dream, and I look forward to working closely with its newly elected leadership slate for the next two years.  

I want to congratulate my friend, Rep. Jim Himes, on his election as the next Chair of the New Democrat Coalition, along with the newly elected Vice-Chairs for the 115th Congress: Reps. Suzan DelBene, Derek Kilmer, Jared Polis, and Terri Sewell.  

I join in congratulating Rep. Cedric Richmond on his election as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) for the 115th Congress, as well as Vice Chairs Andre Carson and Karen Bass, Secretary Brenda Lawrence, and Whip Gwen Moore.  

Millions more people voted for the agenda that this leadership group represents—millions.

I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as Democratic Whip for the 115th Congress and I look forward to working with the full Caucus to stand up for the plurality of Americans who did not vote for Donald Trump or his agenda.  

Today, House Republicans released the legislative schedule for 2017. 

Last week’s election demonstrated the extent to which Americans are deeply frustrated by and distrustful of our government institutions, and the anxiety they feel over a changing economy that they believe has left them behind. 

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report released this morning demonstrates that the solid pace of our jobs recovery is continuing, with September marking six years of continual job growth. 

I’m pleased that Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives reached an agreement this week and passed legislation to avoid a government shutdown.
