Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream.

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream. That’s why House Democrats continue to work for common sense, comprehensive, and balanced immigration reform: reform that secures our borders, respects the rule of law, and provides immigrants with a fair chance of achieving the American Dream. We believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you should have a chance at building a future here in America. Comprehensive immigration reform would be good for the American economy and help our fiscal outlook. House Democrats have worked to establish a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and T.P.S. and D.E.D. status holders by twice-passing the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act, which Republicans continue to obstruct in the Senate. House Democrats also passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act to reform the H-2A guestworker program to allow those contributing to our agricultural economy to remain in America. President Biden has taken action to restore the DACA program, end wasteful spending on an ineffective border wall, and reaffirm America’s values. Democrats will continue to partner with the Biden Administration to help Dreamers, fix American’s broken immigration system and ensure that it strengthens America and grows our economy.

Welcome to the government that you support. Welcome to the community that you have helped create.

Good evening. Thank you for being here. When President Trump announced the end of the DACA program, he put hundreds of thousands of young people and their families in danger, and undermined our country and all its citizens as well.

Tonight, I proudly added my name to a discharge petition that would force the House to vote on the DREAM Act.  With broad support from Democrats and growing support among Republicans, the DREAM Act ought to come to the Floor without delay, where I believe it will pass.

Want to do something popular with Americans, GOP? Protect DREAMers. According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, an overwhelming majority of Americans want to protect DREAMers.

To my fellow Americans in mind and in spirit, to the DREAMers who yearn to be accepted in full by the nation they love and call home – I write to reassure you that you do not stand alone in this time of challenge.

This week, I worked with my colleagues in Congress and immigration advocates to keep up the pressure on Republicans to bring the DREAM Act to the Floor for a vote.

I am committed to pursuing every possible avenue to quickly pass the DREAM Act and provide a permanent legislative solution to protect DREAMers

Mr. Speaker, last week on the East Front of the Capitol on the lawn, I met with a group of DREAMers outside the Capitol.

ICYMI, we wanted to make sure you all saw the PQ vote this afternoon. Republicans had yet another opportunity to vote with us to bring up the bipartisan and bicameral DREAM Act – but for the fourth time, they refused to do so.
Americans across the political spectrum have a message for Republicans in Congress: protecting DREAMers is a top priority.
