WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after signing a discharge petition to bring the DREAM Act to the Floor for a vote:

“Tonight, I proudly added my name to a discharge petition that would force the House to vote on the DREAM Act.  With broad support from Democrats and growing support among Republicans, the DREAM Act ought to come to the Floor without delay, where I believe it will pass.  This legislation would remove the cloud of uncertainty and fear now looming over hundreds of thousands of young DREAMers and their families.  Many of these DREAMers have never known any home but the United States, and we ought to allow them to stay here and continue building their lives and contributing to our communities, our country, and the growth of our economy.

"I urge all Members – on both sides of the aisle – who believe in these young DREAMers and their value to our country and their contributions as workers, innovators, and entrepreneurs – to join in signing our discharge petition to bring the DREAM Act to the Floor.”
