Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream.

The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we recognize the contributions made by Americans who came to this country from all over the world to make a new home and pursue the American Dream. That’s why House Democrats continue to work for common sense, comprehensive, and balanced immigration reform: reform that secures our borders, respects the rule of law, and provides immigrants with a fair chance of achieving the American Dream. We believe that if you work hard and play by the rules, you should have a chance at building a future here in America. Comprehensive immigration reform would be good for the American economy and help our fiscal outlook. House Democrats have worked to establish a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and T.P.S. and D.E.D. status holders by twice-passing the bipartisan American Dream and Promise Act, which Republicans continue to obstruct in the Senate. House Democrats also passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act to reform the H-2A guestworker program to allow those contributing to our agricultural economy to remain in America. President Biden has taken action to restore the DACA program, end wasteful spending on an ineffective border wall, and reaffirm America’s values. Democrats will continue to partner with the Biden Administration to help Dreamers, fix American’s broken immigration system and ensure that it strengthens America and grows our economy.

When President Trump created this crisis for DREAMers by ending the DACA program, he challenged Congress to pass legislation allowing them to stay.
This weekend marked one year since President Donald Trump took office.
I am proud to co-sponsor this resolution of censure introduced today and thank Rep. Richmond and Rep. Nadler for their leadership.
The Trump Administration’s immigration report, which paints a misleading picture of a nation under assault from foreigners seeking to bring terrorism, domestic violence, and economic drain to our country, has one goal: to distract from its failure to address the present DACA crisis.
I hope the Senate has reached some agreement, I don’t know what’s in the agreement. I know that Senator Durbin and Senator Graham had been working very hard, along with a number of their colleagues, on trying to reach an agreement to protect the DREAMers.
This week marked the beginning of the second session of the 115th Congress began, and we returned to face the same lengthy to-do list that Republicans left unaddressed at the end of 2017.
President Trump’s comments are racist and a disgrace.
I look forward to reviewing the details of the reported deal to ensure it protects DREAMers and does not harm unrelated immigration policy areas that should instead be part of a comprehensive immigration reform package.

[Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senator Dick Durbin, Senator John Cornyn, and myself] believe central to any action that we take is the protection of the DREAMers, making sure that they stay here in this country, the only country that they really know, and a policy that is supported by the overwhelming majority of the American public and I would suggest apparently supported [by President Trump] he was articulating his support of that with [Senator] Dianne Feinstein.
