In all the time I have served in the Congress, I have known few staff members as smart, knowledgeable, talented, focused, and dedicated to her work as Shalanda Young. 
onight, President-elect Biden unveiled his proposal to put the full weight of the federal government behind efforts to defeat COVID-19 and reopen our economy safely once he is sworn into office next week. 
I tried to appeal to Republican Members that this was not about a Donald Trump or the House or Democrats or Republicans. What it was, will we allow conduct which led to an attack on the Congress of the United States,
“I think, unfortunately, the debate [of the impeachment resolution] reflected the rationalization of Trump's behavior that has been the norm frankly so often when we have these debates, and the refusal of the Republican Party to hold him accountable. I made that point in my speech.
I was interested in what Senator McConnell said yesterday. He is pleased we are moving on the impeachment. That mirrors the comments of Liz Cheney, who’s the number three Republican leader in the House.
Any fair-minded person who is simply not just voting out of partisan motivation has got to say that the facts and principle demand that this President be held accountable.
Officer Howard Liebengood dedicated his life to protecting the U.S. Capitol and the institutions of our democracy. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing.
I was pleased to meet today with General Lloyd Austin, President-elect Biden’s nominee for Secretary of Defense. Wednesday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol complex by a violent mob of the President’s supporters was a terrible tragedy for our nation, compounded by the news of the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Officer Sicknick had dedicated himself to protecting the Capitol, those who serve there, and the many constituents and visitors who come to meet with their legislators.
