I was proud today to bring the National Apprenticeship Act to the Floor for a vote again.  We passed this legislation in November, but unfortunately the Republican Senate Majority failed to take it up before the end of the 116th Congress.
With the House and Senate now agreeing on a budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2021, Congress now has an additional tool to quickly pass President Biden’s American Rescue Plan to help Americans struggling through this pandemic and the economic crisis it has caused.
I am deeply disturbed by the news of Lokman Slim’s assassination in Lebanon.  Like many Lebanese, he was frustrated with the continued presence of Hezbollah, an unrepentant terrorist organization and a proxy of Iran, in Lebanon’s government and its continued efforts to prevent peace and democracy in that country.  He was murdered for speaking out and expressing his views publicly, a basic human right that must be respected and safeguarded in Lebanon and everywhere.

WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the January jobs report:
I am encouraged that President Biden is taking steps to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, exacerbated by Iran’s actions, by rebalancing our engagement in a way that, hopefully, will lead to dialogue and a cease fire so relief aid can make it to suffering civilians.

Alexei Navalny demonstrated real bravery when he chose to return to his native country and defy Vladimir Putin and his repressive, oligarchic regime.  His sentencing to two-and-a-half years in prison on trumped-up, spurious, and politically motivated charges will not bring an end to the Russian people's desire for freedom, economic opportunity, and an end to the Putin regime's rampant corruption.
On his first day in office, President Biden took immediate action to reverse some of the Trump Administration's worst policies targeting immigrants.
The coup in Myanmar yesterday was an illegitimate seizure of power and ought to be condemned by the international community.
