House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) asked the Governors of all 50 states in a letter sent today to recognize and honor provisional ballots in the upcoming November election in order to protect voters’ rights from administrative or technical error. Provisional ballots are a crucial part of the landmark election reform legislation the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), of which Hoyer was the lead House Democratic sponsor:

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) led a bipartisan group of 85 lawmakers in urging members of the Fiscal Year 2005 Homeland Security Appropriations conference committee to retain $100 million in funding for the “Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Firefighters” (SAFER) Program in a letter sent late Friday. The SAFER Program would provide much-needed funding for career and volunteer fire departments across America to hire new firefighters, recruit and retain volunteer fire fighters, and relieve the thousands of fire stations across the country that are currently operating short of staff.

The Museum, the newest member of the Smithsonian family, is located on the National Mall and showcases the history, culture, and traditions of American Indian tribes in the United States:

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) sent a letter today to Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, which address sections of a report on the U.S. Park Police that was issued by the National Academy of Public Administration last week. The report supports the statements regarding a shortage of resources and manpower made by U.S. Park Police Chief Teresa Chambers, who was subsequently dismissed from her post as a result of those remarks.
