WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement after new reports further highlighted the extraordinary extent of the waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayers' money following Hurricane Katrina:

Hoyer (MD) released the following statement this afternoon after House Republicans again blocked a vote to raise the federal minimum wage from $5.15 per hour to $7.25 per hour over two years. Democrats believe there is majority support in the House for raising the minimum wage, so Democrats asked Republicans to join them in opposing the rule on the Science, State, Justice and Commerce (SSJC) Appropriations Bill to force a vote on an amendment to increase the minimum wage.

Hoyer (D-MD) today applauded the House of Representatives for reauthorizing an important provision in the FY 2007 Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Act to restore fairness for federal employees to the flawed OMB Circular A-76 privatization process. The provision was first included in the FY 2006 bill.

Hoyer (D-MD) released the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed the FY07 Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act which includes a 2.7% pay adjustment for civilian federal workers, the same amount provided by the House-passed Defense Authorization bill for military personnel.
