Like their counterparts in Georgia and Florida, Republican state legislators in Arizona have chosen to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of people rather than having to compete in free and fair elections. This law, signed yesterday by Governor Ducey, now enters the history books as one of the worst anti-voting measures to be approved since the end of the Jim Crow era in our country.
“The events of the past few days have demonstrated, once again, the danger Israelis face every day and the reason peace is so necessary. No provocation in Jerusalem justifies raining down rockets on a civilian population, and no nation can be expected to sit idly while rockets are fired into its borders and its civilians are targeted. Israel has every right to defend itself and take necessary action to stop the attacks from Gaza.
WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the House Republican Caucus voted to remove Rep. Liz Cheney (WY-AL) from her leadership role as House GOP Conference Chair:
With the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration having completed its work yesterday on S. 1, the Senate version of the For the People Act, Leader Schumer can now bring it to the Floor for consideration. The House took swift action to pass the For the People Act in the first 100 days of the 117th Congress because this critical legislation is needed to protect Americans' right to vote, strengthen our democratic institutions, and renew Americans' faith in government by requiring stricter accountability and transparency rules.
This evening, House Republicans once again chose to put partisan politics before helping the American people. Millions of Americans are suffering from opioid addiction, and Rep. Madeleine Dean’s legislation, H.R. 1629, would offer them and their families hope through expanded treatment options.

I join in thanking the Biden-Harris Administration for reversing the discriminatory rule that allowed discrimination against LGBTQ Americans in health care. While today's announcement is surely welcome news, not only in the LGBTQ community but for all who recognize LGBTQ equality and strive for justice, it would not be necessary if the Equality Act were to become law.
Today’s report show how deeply the COVID-19 pandemic has damaged our economy. Democrats took necessary action to stop the bleeding and start turning things around by enacting the American Rescue Plan, which is getting money in people’s pockets, helping small businesses reopen safely, and getting shots in arms, but it’s clear that more must be done to ensure a full economic recovery.
I've been proud to partner with Chairwoman Barbara Lee to ensure that the House remains focused on combating poverty and creating opportunity for all Americans. The five vice chairs we have selected are Members who are deeply committed to this work and who have a track record of leadership on issues relating to alleviating poverty, reducing disparities, promoting equity in access to opportunities, and securing justice for those who are economically disadvantaged.
I applaud President Biden's commitment to preserving 30% of America's lands and waters by 2030 through a whole-of-government approach and with the support of private conservation efforts. If we are to protect our natural environments for the enjoyment of future generations of Americans, we need to set ambitious goals like this one.
