"Ninety years ago today, women were granted the most fundamental expression of equality in democracy—the right to vote. As we pause to honor this landmark day in our nation's history, we must commemorate the efforts of a fearless group of women, who worked tirelessly to ensure that all women would have the same fundamental rights as men.
"For 75 years, Social Security has stood as an unbroken promise to America's seniors: that after a lifetime of hard work, they have the assurance that they can retire with real security. Where many seniors were once faced with a life of poverty, for the last 75 years they have instead been able to lead a life of dignity.

I'm pleased the President signed another piece of Democrats' Make it in America agenda into law today. Manufacturing is a critical sector of our economy, vital to both our economic recovery and to our national security. No other sector can replace manufacturing, and Democrats are committed to restoring a vibrant and strong manufacturing base in the U.S. The bill signed into law today, the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act, will make it cheaper for manufacturers to get the materials they need to make their products right here in America, spurring more manufacturing and supporting an estimated 90,000 manufacturing jobs across the country.

Let's consider what would happen if Republicans had their way and this bill failed.

"I am pleased to announce the promotion of two valued members of my staff, Katie Grant and Maureen Beach, as well as welcome Dan Reilly to the Majority Leader's Office. All three are tireless workers whose experience and skills will be an asset to my office, House Democrats, and the media."

Democrats have been focused throughout this Congress on reducing the deficit and restoring fiscal responsibility.
House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) led a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Haiti today, Friday, August 6th. Joining him were Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD), Congressman David Price (D-NC), Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-MD), and Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL).
As Democrats continue to work to move our nation forward, we remain focused on continued job creation and economic recovery. As part of that effort, Democrats recently launched our "Make it in America" agenda, which seeks to increase domestic manufacturing and create good, middle-class jobs here at home.
It's encouraging that the private sector added 71,000 jobs last month—the seventh month in a row in which private sector employment grew.
"Forty-five years ago, Congress voted to ensure that all Americans, no matter their race or color, had the right to go to the polls and cast their vote. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 gave made the promise of equal suffrage guaranteed by the 15th Amendment a reality, and dramatically strengthened our democracy as a result."
