“Attorney General Holder is absolutely right to challenge North Carolina’s new, discriminatory law, which will effectively disenfranchise many of its residents, particularly seniors, students, and members of minority groups.

“The President’s announcement of a new Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee, to continue the work begun with the launch of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership two years ago, is a reminder that the Obama Administration remains focused on creating jobs and strengthening American manufacturing – and Congress should be as well.

“Good morning. I’m so glad the President of the United States has come to Prince George’s Community College to talk about the Affordable Care Act. None of us ought to be surprised that when President Obama decided to talk about the successes in implementing health care reform, he came to Maryland.

The service was a strong reminder that, when events like this occur, we come together to comfort one another as an extended American family.

“Two years ago today, our nation fully opened the doors of military service to LGBT Americans wishing to serve their country openly.  The end of the discriminatory 'Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell' policy reflected the great American tradition of breaking down barriers and expanding equal opportunity, and I was proud to have played a part in Democrats’ effort to repeal it.

"I agree with the President that we must do more to help U.S. businesses increase exports and be more competitive in a global marketplace. The more goods they sell around the world, the more opportunities there will be to hire workers here at home to manufacture those goods.

“I am deeply disappointed that Republicans continue to risk a government shutdown by appealing to the most extreme members of their party through a continuing resolution that has no chance of passing the Senate or being signed by the President.
