“I join in remembering the horrific Nazi pogrom of Kristallnacht seventy-five years ago.  The destruction and hate-driven murder that occurred over two days marked a turning point toward a horrific genocide whose pain continues to be felt by all those throughout the world who believe in justice. 

“The Obama Administration’s new rules requiring parity for coverage of mental health and physical health care services finally ends an unfair disparity in our nation’s health care system.

“On Monday, we will pay tribute to all those who have worn the uniform of our country and put their lives on the line to defend our freedom and way of life.

"Our economic recovery continues to move forward, as the monthly jobs report for October shows. With an increase of 212,000 private sector jobs last month, our economy is putting Americans back to work, despite the negative effects of the government shutdown.

“Today, the Senate took an important step forward toward protecting all Americans from workplace and employment discrimination by passing the Employment Non-Discrimination Act with a strong, bipartisan vote of 64-32.

"Today's report from the Commerce Department that our gross domestic product grew at an annual rate of 2.8% last quarter – the fastest pace in a year – is a strong indication that our nation's economy continues to be resilient, in spite of a lack of certainty caused by partisan dysfunction in Congress.

“I am encouraged that the Senate has now voted to bring the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to the Floor for consideration, a bill that would provide important protections for American workers facing discrimination

“Today’s report from the Institute for Supply Management shows that our manufacturing sector grew at its fastest pace in 2013 and outperformed September’s pace, which was the best in two and a half years.
