Press Release
WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today as the Senate began confirmation hearings for cabinet nominees:
As Republicans move forward with their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act without offering a replacement, House Democrats will continue to highlight what is at stake for millions of Americans.
As the situation continues to unfold at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were killed or injured in today’s shooting, as well as with those brave first responders who worked to save lives.
“This report is damning. Our intelligence agencies have done their work and done it well. There can be no refuting the hard facts: Russia hacked our election, seeking to undermine America’s democratic and electoral institutions. Donald Trump has claimed that it could have been any of a number of nations or even a rogue individual who engaged in these cyberattacks.
The magnitude of Russian interference in our recent election demands an independent investigative commission, and today I am joining with more than 150 of my House colleagues in cosponsoring legislation to establish such a body.
I think there's a real danger that is occurring where Donald Trump is either not getting briefings because he thinks they're irrelevant and he knows more than the intelligence agencies, or he has the intelligence agency briefings and denies their findings… and undermines the confidence they have in themselves and undermines the confidence Americans have in our intelligence agencies.
Today’s Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly report shows an economy that continues to produce jobs at a steady clip, with seventy-five consecutive months of positive job growth alongside 144,000 new private sector jobs created in December.
The fact of the matter is, of course, the economic environment since President Obama took office has substantially improved, incredibly improved.
This new report ought to be alarming to all Americans.
I thank the gentleman for yielding, and I rise today to reiterate the strong, bipartisan support for our ally Israel in the United States Congress.
