Today, the House joined the Senate in calling for the release to Congress of the full and unredacted Inspector General’s report on the whistleblower complaint regarding the President’s attempt to coerce a foreign government to interfere on his behalf in the 2020 election.
Today, the House passed the first of two bills this week to address the horrible humanitarian crisis at the border that has resulted from President Trump’s inhumane policies.  The bill today, introduced by Rep. Veronica Escobar, will promote accountability, transparency, and oversight at the border.
The memorandum released by the White House this morning is damning. This presidency has been characterized by corruption, contempt for the rule of law, and the betrayal of public trust.
I am proud to bring this legislation to the Floor, but I believe it does not go far enough.  This must be a first step toward the decriminalization and de-scheduling of marijuana, which has led to the prosecution and incarceration of far too many of our fellow Americans for possession.

Allegations that the President of the United States sought to enlist a foreign government to interfere in our democratic process by investigating one of his political rivals – and may have used the withholding of Congressionally appropriated foreign assistance days earlier as intimidation – are deeply alarming.
Jim Clyburn and I have been friends for more than half a century, and I was deeply saddened to learn of Emily England Clyburn’s passing.  I had the privilege of knowing her for many years as well, and like so many others I saw the love, devotion, and true partnership she and Jim shared for nearly six decades.
I was stunned and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my great friend Cokie Roberts. She was a wonderful person, a leading journalist, and a great student of the Congress.
The attack on the Saudi oil facilities is not only an attack on Saudi Arabia but on the stability of the world economy.  That may well be its intent.  We do not yet know who perpetrated this attack, but whoever did this ought to suffer consequences after a proper investigation of what actually happened.  Any response must be well thought-out and strategic.
