For years, Leader Hoyer and House Democrats have championed the Make It In America plan. First begun as an effort to restore our nation’s manufacturing sector after the Great Recession, in the eleven years since its creation, the plan has been updated each Congress to respond to changing economic challenges and opportunities.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life and injuries as a result of today’s derailment of an Amtrak train in Washington.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) joined Congressman Peter Welch (VT) and 60 Democrats in sending the following letter to Speaker Ryan on Wednesday about the need for robust, long-term funding for infrastructure repairs and improvements that will strengthen America’s economic competitiveness.   

While the House took action to prevent the Highway Trust Fund from expiring at the end of this month, which would have put thousands of construction jobs in jeopardy and undermined key investments to maintain our nation’s highway and transit network infrastructure, we cannot continue to go from short-term fix to short-term fix.
