Today, we lost a great American with the passing of former Sen. John Glenn.  

’December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy.’  When President Roosevelt spoke those stirring words, he knew that generations hence would remember the attack on Pearl Harbor not only for the heroism and loss of life on that terrible day but also for the courage and perseverance that would characterize our nation in the days, months, and years ahead.

One of the basic principles that safeguards our democracy is the separation of the personal business interests of our leaders from the government business with which they are entrusted while in office.  

I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Rep. Danny Davis' grandson, Jovan Wilson. 

President-Elect Trump’s nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions to be Attorney General of the United States will demand the same rigorous scrutiny that was brought to bear by the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee in 1986, when it rejected his nomination for a federal district judgeship.  

With each appointment made by the President-Elect, my grave concern about his presidency increases.  

Last week’s election demonstrated the extent to which Americans are deeply frustrated by and distrustful of our government institutions, and the anxiety they feel over a changing economy that they believe has left them behind. 

I was deeply saddened to learn of Gwen Ifill’s passing today.  

Donald Trump's appointment of Steve Bannon to a senior position at the White House is deeply disturbing. 

I join in wishing a sweet and joyous new year to all those gathering tonight with family and friends across America, in Israel, and around the world to celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
