*2014 Republican Budget

A look at the first session of the 113th Congress shows that the Republican-led House of Representatives has not made progress on issues important to the American people. With 8 legislative days remaining in this year, the Republican leadership is poised to leave a long to-do list of critical legislation unfinished.

With the 2013 clock running out, House Republicans’ non-existent list of legislative accomplishments and their unfinished to-do list is garnering even more attention.  Today the New York Times noted the record lack of productivity by the Do-Nothing Republicans:

MESSAGE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHIP

There are only 8 legislative days remaining before the end of the year, yet House Republicans wasted this week on bills that will not advance in the Senate, become law or address any of the time sensitive issues Congress must pass before the end of the year.I am disappointed that instead of taking action on critical legislation, including a budget agreement that replac

“Thank you very much Leader. Many of you have heard me say, but you know it as well – there are 8 legislative days left in 2013, according to the Republican Majority schedule. Two of those days, of course, are days in which we come in at 6:30. So that there is not much time to do the work of the American people.

As  the deadline for a fiscal agreement gets closer, apparently some Republicans are discussing the idea of another government shutdown.  According to POLITICO:

“A heated discussion broke out Wednesday at a closed-door Tea Party Caucus meeting organized by the group TheTeaParty.net, according to a source in the room.”

“Mr. Speaker, I see four people in the gallery. I see three Members on the Floor. The galleries are empty. The Floor is empty. Because we are not doing anything. And it's not because we don't have a lot of things to do. We have six – seven if you count tomorrow, where we will leave by 12:00 – six full days left in the session in 2013. And yet we fiddle here while the country sees itself burning.

We already saw Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget go down in flames when House Republicans attempted their appropriations process on the House Floor (and had to pull from consideration the only bill that was at the Ryan budget level).  Now CQ reports that more House Republicans are recognizing this is an unrealistic budget for the conference committee to consider:

“Madam Speaker, this bill and the other two House bills we will consider this week were put forward, in my opinion, to fill time. Yes, they are unifying issues on the Republican side of the aisle, Madam Speaker, but they're not pressing. Even if they were good policy, they're not pressing.
