At approximately 6:00 p.m., the House will reconvene and begin one hour of debate on the Rule providing for consideration of H.Res. 21 – Calling on Vice President Mike Pence to convene and mobilize the principal officers to activate section 4 of the 25th Amendment.

Following debate on the Rule, the House will take votes, by groups.

I congratulated General Austin on the historic nature of his nomination and expressed my strong support for granting the waiver necessary for him to be confirmed as Secretary once the House Armed Services Committee has held a hearing to review the issue of civilian control of the military.

Wednesday’s attack on the U.S. Capitol complex by a violent mob of the President’s supporters was a terrible tragedy for our nation, compounded by the news of the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Officer Sicknick had dedicated himself to protecting the Capitol, those who serve there, and the many constituents and visitors who come to meet with their legislators.
