With 10 days left until the December 21 funding deadline, President Trump isn’t working across the aisle to keep government open. Instead, he’s declaring to the American people that he would be proud to shut it down if he doesn’t get his way:

We all know President Trump loves to look at his own press coverage, but after declaring how proud he would be to shut down the government on national TV today, the headlines are pretty damning:

Remember when Republicans claimed their tax scam would create jobs and raise wages? Well, that’s clearly not the case. Corporations saw enormous tax windfalls from the GOP tax scam, but rather than use that money to create jobs, they are cutting workers. And after Americans overwhelmingly rejected that tax scam in the last election, Republicans are responding to that defeat by doing what? Trying to pass yet another tax bill that does nothing for the middle class.

If the government shuts down next week, Trump just admitted in the Oval Office that he will be the one to blame:

Over the last decade, the uninsured rate of children in America had been steadily decreasing. That was until President Trump and Congressional Republicans began sabotaging our health care system. Now, the uninsured rate for children is climbing for the first time in 10 years. A Vox article walks through the impact of GOP policies. Take a look:
- Every single state (other than DC) saw an increase in uninsured children last year.
- The uninsured rate, which had been decreasing over the last decade, is now increasing due to GOP policies.

We know there’s a lot going on this morning, but don’t let this one pass you by. Once again, President Trump is admitting he is prepared to shut down unified Republican government over his costly, ineffective border wall. From Politico:

Another day, another story on Republicans abandoning their singular “legislative achievement” from two years of unified government. As the House GOP prepares to vote on a second tax cut skewed toward the wealthy, the Washington Post takes a look at how they’ve already lost the messaging battle on this issue:
“Republican campaigns have largely abandoned touting the GOP tax law ahead of the November midterms...”

Remember when Republicans claimed to be the party of fiscal responsibility? Mitt Romney does, and he’s calling his fellow Republicans out for their hypocrisy. Should we tell him that House Republicans are planning a vote this week to add $59 billion to the deficit through a bill that undermines the ACA and they’re marking up ANOTHER tax scam that will explode the deficit by an additional $657 billion? Here’s what he had to say:
“Utah Senate candidate and former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney criticized the GOP on Monday for ballooning the federal deficit after years of party rhetoric about fiscal responsibility.”

House Republicans could have worked with Democrats to pass a bipartisan Farm Bill that provides certainty for America’s farmers and supports programs that combat hunger. Instead, they passed flawed, partisan legislation with harmful restrictions to nutrition assistance programs that keep families from going hungry. And now, as the Farm Bill conference committee meets, a new report finds that nearly 2 million Americans could lose benefits if the House bill is signed into law:

In case you missed it: President Trump once again advocated for shutting down the government. Today, on camera, when asked to rule out a shut down, he said: if it happens, it happens. Except, that’s not how this works. Republicans control all levers of government, so if it happens, it’s because they made the decision to shut it down. Let there be no doubt who will own this “if it happens.”
From the White House’s own transcript:
Q Mr. President, shutdown: yes or no?
Q Can you rule out a shutdown?
