WASHINGTON, DC - House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) today announced two staff changes. Danielle Aviles has been promoted to Deputy Floor Director to succeed Daniel Shott, who left Capitol Hill to pursue graduate study. Additionally, Ray Salazar, previously Special Assistant, has been promoted to take over Aviles’s previous role as Floor Assistant.

“I’m excited to have Danielle taking on this new role on my Floor Team,” Whip Hoyer said.  “She’s been an outstanding member of the Democratic Whip’s staff for the past five years, and is already an invaluable asset to Members on the House Floor, working closely with my Floor Director, Shuwanza Goff.  From staffing the front desk to managing the Whip’s office and later assisting with Floor operations, Danielle has applied her intellect, strong work ethic, and cheerful demeanor to advancing the work of the Whip operation and the Democratic Caucus.  I am also pleased that Ray Salazar will be joining the Floor Team after having worked for my leadership PAC and as my Special Assistant.  Ray has excelled in each role and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about our Caucus to his new position.  I look forward to continuing to work with both of them as we move forward with our mission to help Members achieve results on behalf of their constituents.”

Danielle Aviles has served as Whip Hoyer’s Floor Assistant since November 2013, working to keep the Democratic Caucus informed about what’s happening on the House Floor each day.  Danielle joined the Hoyer office in July 2010 as a staff assistant. In March 2012, she was promoted to Executive Assistant/Office Manager, where she managed the administrative team.  She was born and raised in north Texas and was the first in her immediate family to graduate from college, earning a B.A. in Political Science from Texas A&M University.

Ray Salazar has worked for Whip Hoyer since 2013, when he joined AMERIPAC as National Political Assistant. In that role, he helped with Whip Hoyer’s political outreach and recruitment in Congressional districts across the country. In September of 2014, he moved over to the Whip office as Special Assistant.  Ray is from Northern California, and he graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a B.A. in International Relations.
