WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) announced today that Claudia Urrabazo has been hired to serve as Deputy Member Services Director and Outreach Advisor, replacing Javier Martinez, who left Capitol Hill at the end of last year.

“I’m pleased to welcome Claudia Urrabazo to the Whip Office team,” said Hoyer.  “She brings a wealth of policy and outreach experience from her previous roles on Capitol Hill as well as strong relationships with key groups within the House Democratic Caucus, including the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and outside organizations.  I look forward to working with Claudia to continue our very successful outreach to advocates and stakeholders as well as the services our office provides to Democratic Members to assist them in serving their constituents back home.”

Claudia Urrabazo joins the Democratic Whip’s office after having served since 2013 as Legislative Director for Rep. Joaquin Castro and, before that, in the same capacity for former Rep. Pete Gallego.  From 2009-2012, she served as a Legislative Assistant and Speechwriter to Rep. Henry Cuellar, and she began her career on Capitol Hill with internships for Rep. Cuellar and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.  Claudia holds a B.A. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin.
