TrumpCare Fact Check: Spicer Edition
Today’s press briefing by the White House Press Secretary had quite a few alternative facts about #TrumpCare. Here’s a look at Spicer’s comments and how they fail to match reality:
Claim: Spicer said it was "literally impossible" to predict the effects of the legislation.
Reality: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office scores legislation to determine the impact. As a reminder, the score released in March for the original TrumpCare bill estimates 24 million Americans would lose coverage and the bill would increase premiums by 25-29% on average in the next two years. CBO could provide updated information on the impacts of an amended version of TrumpCare, but Republicans don’t want to wait for that analysis.
Claim: "Pre-existing conditions are covered under the bill in every scenario."
Reality: TrumpCare removes protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions and allows insurers to price Americans with pre-existing conditions out of the market. High risk pools have higher premiums, higher deductibles, and longer wait times.
